The ongoing economic conditions in Nigeria have led to an alarming increase in hunger rates, making it increasingly difficult for people to obtain sufficient amounts of food.

As a result, many families, including those from the middle class, are struggling to afford basic food necessities.

Supportive Pillar Foundation Bank Details For Support Donations

To address this issue, the Supportive Pillar Foundation recently embarked on an initiative called the December 2023 Communities Outreach, with the tagline “Man Must Chop“.

This year marks the fourth edition of this incredible event. You can check out previous iterations here.

During the outreach, we visited six different locations, which are Adebiyi Street, Haruna Inside, Abule-Oja Alagbole, Abule Iroko Sango Ogun State, Adeyeri Crescent Ifako Ijaiye, Ibafo Ogun State, and Iwaya/Makoko Lagos State.

Goal of The ‘Man Must Chop 2023 December Communities Outreach’ Initiative

The 2023 December Communities Outreach aimed to positively impact the lives of those in need during the festive season.

We recognized that this time of year can be particularly challenging for the less fortunate, and we wanted to bring some joy and relief into their lives. This year, we did something special by packing all the food items in a box.

The box contained essential items such as rice, beans, garri, groundnut oil, tomato paste, tasty cube seasoning, salt, spaghetti, semolina, and a Coca-Cola drink.

In addition, we prepared a special Christmas package for the children, which included treats such as chin-chin, sweets, chewing gum, biscuits, noodles, peanuts, a drink, and a cup.

Our aim was not only to provide food items but also to bring smiles to the faces of those in need and alleviate hunger.

Anticipation of Our Arrival At The Man Must Chop December Communities Outreach

We could feel the anticipation in the air as beneficiaries with tickets eagerly awaited our arrival. The excitement was contagious and it filled the community with a sense of hope and joy.

People couldn’t stop talking about the upcoming outreach, and the buzz was everywhere. To ensure that everyone knew we were there, we didn’t just stick to one spot.

In some locations, like Abule-Ogundele, we even conducted a little survey of the community to ensure that everyone was aware of our presence.

It was important to us that no one with a ticket was left out, and we wanted to bring joy and support to as many people as possible. The energy and enthusiasm we encountered during our journey were incredible. People were eagerly waiting for our arrival, holding their tickets tightly, ready to be a part of the experience.

The outreach spanned two incredible days, filled with love, compassion, and a shared spirit of giving. But the impact started even before that.

A week before the outreach, we distributed tickets to indigent individuals. It was a way to let them know that they were seen and valued and that they had a place in this celebration of togetherness. The gratitude and appreciation we received in return were overwhelming.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT And Distribution of Christmas Gifts And Food Supplies

During our visits to some of the communities, we engaged with the Baales of all the communities and their members before distributing the foodstuffs.

For example, At Abule-ogundele, we had meaningful conversations with the Baale about their needs, concerns, and aspirations. This open communication allowed us to better understand the community’s challenges and tailor our efforts to serve them effectively.

The distribution process was well-coordinated with the support of the Baale and the community. We set up a fair and efficient system by carefully surveying the community to identify those who needed the resources most.

We aimed not only to provide immediate relief but also to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the community through this community engagement initiative.

Here’s a short video of the activities that happened at Makoko, one of the poorest communities in Lagos Nigeria.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED

While sharing foodstuffs, overcrowding presented its challenges. However, we were determined to make sure that everyone with a ticket received their fair share of the box of foodstuffs.

One of the challenges we faced was the lack of patience from some parents when it came to arranging their kids in an orderly manner to receive the presents. Understandably, they all wanted their children to be the first ones to receive the gifts. It was important for us to maintain fairness and ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to receive a Christmas package.

Another challenge we encountered was that some people arrived late, not following the fixed time indicated on their tickets. This made it a bit challenging to keep the distribution process running smoothly and efficiently. However, we adapted and made sure that those who arrived late still received their packages.

Despite these difficulties, our team remained dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive experience for everyone. We adjusted our approach, communicated with the parents, and made sure that fairness prevailed throughout the distribution process.

It’s important to acknowledge these challenges and find ways to address them to ensure that the event runs as smoothly as possible. We continuously learn from these experiences to improve our future initiatives and make them even more impactful.
